2015 Disclosure Granite City Last week I had the chance to #GCSneakPeek a look at the newest location for Granite City Food and Brewery in Schaumburg.  While the area is already hugely populated with restaurants due to Woodfield Mall….Granite City is a great new addition.  It’s actually located back behind the mall, closer to the Zurich building which makes it easier to access without all the mall craziness.

Granite City Flying Monkey Kentucky Sunset Just as it’s name suggests, Granite City is more than a restaurant it’s also a brewery.  A brewery that has 14 seasonal beers on tap every year.  That’s at least one a month and more during the holiday season.  I don’t know about you, but I prefer my beer fresh from the tap .  Not only can you get a new seasonal monthly, you can also pick-up either a glass or stainless steel growler to take some home to enjoy.  I love this idea as beer bread is a big hit at my house.  Granite City also has a large cocktail and wine menu to go along with its craft brews.  I sampled the Flying Monkey and Elijah Craig’s Kentucky Sunset, both were amazing in their own ways.  The Flying Monkey is like a spiked strawberry lemonade and the Kentucky Sunset a savory orange drink with a hint of chocolate finish.

Granite City has a very extensive menu, everything from appetizers to salads to main dishes to desserts.  With this menu I can pretty much guarantee your entire table will find something to suit their tastes.  I’m not going to list everything I tried, but let’s talk favorites.  I loved the Maple Pepper Bacon and Tomato Flatbread, Asian Chicken Salad, Braised Bison Short Ribs and surprisingly the “Pasta” Primavera.

Granite City Maple Pepper Bacon and Tomato Flatbread If you follow us on Instagram, you know that we *LOVE* bacon in all its forms and in everything.  So it’s no surprise that the Maple Pepper Bacon and Tomato Flatbread was my fave out of all the appetizers I sampled.  It even beat out the Ahi Tuna Wontons even though raw tuna is another love entirely.  The thick slices of maple bacon were chewy and sweet all at the same time and just perfect on a flatbread with fresh tomatoes and cheese.  Honestly, I want this bacon.  I would return just for the bacon but it gets even better.

Granite City Asian Chicken Salad Let’s talk salad….I don’t make a lot of fancy salads at home.  I’m a give me a bowl full of spinach with some dressing kinda girl.  Yet, I do love a good chopped salad that’s full of flavor.  Granite City’s Asian Chicken Salad fits this bill.  It’s full of yummy things like cabbage, red peppers and topped with sesame lime dressing.  We’re talking sweet and savory which is always a winning combination.

Granite City Braised Bison Short Ribs The Braised Bison Short Ribs practically fell apart on the plate they were sooooo tender and perfectly paired with horseradish mashed potatoes and broccolini.  Who can pass up such a dish?  I know that I cannot, but that wasn’t even close to the end.

Granite City Pasta Primavera Last but not least surprisingly was the “Pasta” Primavera.  While I love veggies, I’m far from being what you’d call a vegan.  This veggie noodle dish was pretty darn good.  If all my veggie dishes tasted this good I’d become a vegan faster than you can say “bacon”.  The taste was like a fresh garden spaghetti in which I didn’t miss the meat in the marinara sauce.

Granite City Dessert Trio Granite City also spoiled us with a slew of desserts.  While the chocolate cake was a huge hit with my fellow bloggers, I actually really loved the simple raspberry sorbet.  It had an amazing pure berry flavor which was just what I needed after my extensive lunch.

I hope y’all will stop by and grab a bite at Granite City Food and Brewery Schaumburg when they officially open on Wednesday February 25th, 2015.  Granite City is definitely going to be a welcome addition to our restaurant rotation close to home.
