Coffee is always a necessary item for us in the summer. Those morning when you don’t want to get up early but you have no choice in the matter. So, getting the Starbucks Fall Blend was a treat. Finally, a seasonal shift in coffee flavors meaning a shift for the good. By good, I mean back to school. Now, don’t go thinking that I’m excited to be sending my kids back to school, because I don’t have any. No, I’m excited for the same quiet but for different reasons.
No more, do I need to worry about kids running about the neighborhood to the local park in the mornings. Prime dog walking time which is dicey when there is a kid wearing only a swimsuit screaming in what I hope is delight as they head to the pool. Dogs don’t usually take so kindly to screams of any kind when their human needs to be protected.
So, it’s great to be able to relax in the morning with a donut after getting up after dawn. After all the kids have already rushed to school and Miss Rosie and I can go out for a full sized walk. No distractions no need to wear glasses as there is no one to hurry us on our way. To slide back in through the front door, pulling up a frothy mug of Starbucks coffee. Warm and hot that cuts through the chill in the air. The nuttiness of Peru with the citrus of Kenya all mixed in with the spices of fall to push my morning into what I think of as the fall sprawl. The comfortable leisurely pace of my schedule settling into less forays into the city and more days tucked into my kitchen baking away.
The first cup of that Starbucks Fall Blend is enough to spread the smiles around the house as we look forward to more comfortable moments. Snuggled up on the couch with the pets, or apple picking until we know we won’t be able to ever make that many pies, or crunching the leaves on the sidewalk as Miss Rosie and I stroll around the neighborhood gratefully for clear sidewalks and a slight breeze that cools me just enough to reach for that bag of coffee for just one more cup.
